Reasons not to put comments on your tumblr blog:
People who read your blog from the dashboard will never comment.
Most people read your blog from the dashboard.
To non tumblr users your blog looks very unpopular. (Even though it might be.)
To me, these are the reasons not to have comment links and counts on your post list pages.
I agree, yet I do have comments.
I just keep them backstage, on the permalink pages (there is a pointer over in the sidebar, though). When I’m actively looking for feedback, I’ll specifically mention that the reader can click through to comment, which works just as well from the dashboard as from my front page.
