Etiquette Survey For The Tumblrati
On occasion, a tumble I follow will reblog a post that I, in turn, would like to reblog. Like many tumblrs, I’ll typically credit both the tumble I follow and the origin blog on my reblog. This seems like the right thing to do, since it will expose any followers to both where something originated and how I found it.
What about when the chain of reblogs gets longer? How far down the crediting rabbit hole should we go? At the point the chain becomes whatever you consider to be too long, do you drop all credits but the original or revert to just where you found it plus the original?
Related to this is the issue of finding something by way of a tumble you follow that isn’t the exact thing that they posted. For example, AATW posts a quote from an article, then I find a photo I like from that article and post it with a different quote. Should I credit AATW (I did)? Should I credit ATTW’s original source (I didn’t)?
Seems like another case in which distance from the tumble post you saw would matter.
